Digital helper.
One-to-one help, alongside a session, using patient portals, online banking or government websites, guiding the person’s own hands on their own device.
What you do
- Sit with one person at a time and show them how to use a patient portal, online banking or a government website
- Guide their hands rather than take over: they tap, type and decide; you explain what each screen is for
- Show how to spot a scam page, set a strong password and switch on a second sign-in step
- Point them back to the session’s Commons guide to practise later
What you need
- Experience helping people with technology: for example in a library, a digital skills program or a care setting
- Patience, and comfort with phones, tablets and common websites
What you won’t do
- Take, see or type anyone’s password, one-time code or other credentials
- Look at account details beyond what the person chooses to show you, or keep any record of them
- Install apps, change settings or sign up for anything for someone without their say-so
- Where
- In person, at a host’s session, in an open space where the host can see.
- Checks
- An identity check, references, and a background check where local law allows for roles with young people or adults at risk. Checks are finished before your first session.
- Training
- The short training on the rules every volunteer takes, then a briefing from the Moraph lead on how the host’s sessions run.
- Time
- You tell us what you can give. A series is planned in writing with the host, so you know the dates before you agree to it.
- Open to
- Moraph colleagues and vetted members of the public, 18 or over, in the ten countries where Moraph has an office.
The rules apply to every role. Nothing to sell, strictly nonpartisan, explain never advise, no personal details, safeguarding and conflicts. The rules in full.
