Moraph for Good / Volunteer / Opportunities / Language reviewer
Opportunity · Open to everyone
Language reviewer.
Review translations of Commons materials and session handouts: Spanish, French, Armenian, Hindi, Tagalog, and other languages spoken in the countries where Moraph works.
What you do
- Read a translated guide or handout beside the English and mark what is wrong, unclear or unnatural
- Check that local terms are the ones people actually use: the names of benefits, offices and documents
- Suggest plainer wording where a translation reads like a form
- Say when something can’t be translated as written, so the English can change
What you need
- Fluent reading and writing in English and the language you review
- Experience as an interpreter or translator, or of using the language professionally in finance, health or public services
What you won’t do
- Add advice or content that is not in the English original
- Publish or share drafts before they are released
- Where
- Online, on your own schedule within an agreed date for each piece.
- Checks
- An identity check and references. Reviewers work on published materials and never meet attendees.
- Training
- The short training on the rules, and a briefing on how Commons materials are written, sourced and reviewed.
- Time
- You tell us what you can give. A series is planned in writing with the host, so you know the dates before you agree to it.
- Open to
- Moraph colleagues and vetted members of the public, 18 or over, in the ten countries where Moraph has an office.
The rules apply to every role. Nothing to sell, strictly nonpartisan, explain never advise, no personal details, safeguarding and conflicts. The rules in full.
